But urinary incontinence is treatable — and you shouldn’t let it affect your quality of life. Helen Hsieh, MD, and her caring team at Advanced Women Health in Flushing, New York, regularly recommend BTL Emsella® for urinary incontinence. What is urinary incontinence (UI)?

Urinary incontinence is a medical condition that occurs when you involuntarily lose urine. You may lose a few drops of urine if you sneeze, cough, or laugh. In more severe cases, you may feel a sudden urge to urinate and lose a large amount of urine before reaching the bathroom.

It’s more common in women than men, and older women often experience it more frequently than younger women. The female urinary tract is impacted by pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and aging. Over time, the muscles in the pelvic floor get weak and can’t control the flow of urine.

Urinary incontinence is a common condition, but it isn’t an inevitable part of growing older. Treatment options are available that focus on strengthening your pelvic floor to help restore bladder control.

How does BTL Emsella treat UI?

Dr. Hsieh is proud to use BTL Emsella to treat women of all ages suffering from urinary incontinence. This completely noninvasive treatment stimulates pelvic floor muscles using high-intensity, focused electro-magnetic technology (HIFEM) to restore neuromuscular control.

BTL Emsella treats the entire pelvic floor with thousands of muscle contractions per second. When pelvic floor muscles are stimulated, they naturally begin to lift and tighten. Muscles get stronger, and the pelvic organs are effectively supported, giving you improved bladder control.

What can I expect with BTL Emsella?

Dr. Hsieh recommends BTL Emsella for women of all ages who are in generally good health but who struggle with urinary incontinence and weak pelvic floor muscles. Every patient is different, and Dr. Hsieh develops a personalized treatment plan for you.

Most women see the best benefit from about six treatment sessions, scheduled twice a week for three weeks. Treatment with BTL Emsella is simple and effective, and each session takes just 30 minutes.

You’ll remain fully clothed and comfortable throughout the procedure. No anesthesia is required, and the sensation during treatment feels like tingling and contraction of pelvic floor muscles.

What happens after my BTL Emsella procedure?

There’s no downtime with BTL Emsella, so you can return to your everyday activities as soon as you leave the office. Following treatment, you’ll notice improved bladder control and less leakage. Some women notice results after just one session, with optimal results developing over the following weeks.

You don’t have to live with embarrassing bladder leakage and urinary incontinence any longer. Find out if BTL Emsella is right for you and request a consultation at Advanced Women Health online. Alternatively, you can call the office to speak with a team member directly.
